How payments, memberships, uploads and your account work.

Getting paid and fees

You keep 91% of every payment.

We keep 7%, and 2% covers payment processing.

On a FCFA 1,000 membership, you keep FCFA 910. Readers pay the price you set, and nothing is added on top for them.

Your studio Overview shows what you keep, after fees.

Taxes

You declare this income and pay your own taxes. We don't withhold or file anything for you.

Your studio Overview shows what readers paid and what you kept, this month and in total.

Payouts

We send your earnings in the first week of each month, for the month before. If it's under FCFA 100, it carries over to the next month.

We send your earnings to an MTN Mobile Money or Orange Money number in Cameroon. Add it in your studio, under Settings. We send the full amount you keep, after fees.

Each payout covers everything you kept up to the end of the month that we haven't sent yet. Under FCFA 100, nothing is sent that month, and it's added to the next payout.

Every payout we send is listed under Settings, with the month and the day it went out.

When you add or change your payout number, we email you. If you didn't make the change, write to your-support@abuna.app straight away.

Prices and changes

You set one monthly price for your page. Change it in your studio, under Settings.

Until someone tries to join, a new price starts right away.

After that, pick a start day at least 14 days away. Your members get an email about the change straight away. They pay the new price from their first renewal on or after that day, and new members pay it from that day.

Changed your mind? Choose Keep current price before the start day, and your members get an email saying so.

Memberships for readers

Each creator sets their own monthly price. You pay through Abuna, and your membership renews each month.

A membership opens every members-only post and course from that creator, including new ones as they come out.

Cancel any time from your account. You can still read until the end of the month you paid for.

If a payment doesn't go through, members-only posts and courses stay closed until you pay. Choose Pay now in your account or on the creator's page.

If you'd rather stop, choose Cancel membership instead. With a payment due, cancelling ends your membership right away and clears what you owe.

If a creator's page isn't available, your membership keeps renewing until you cancel. We'll email you, and you can cancel from your account.

Following a creator is free. When a creator emails a new post, course or lesson, followers get it if it's free, and members get it either way. You can turn these emails off for each creator in your account.

Emails about your payments and memberships always stay on, so you know when you're charged.

Telegram groups and channels

Some creators have a private Telegram group or channel for their members. In a group, members can talk with each other. A channel is a feed where only the creator posts. Either way, each new post, course and lesson from the creator can show up there.

When you join a creator who has one, or join again after your membership ended, we send you a button to join it. If you've linked Telegram, our bot sends it there. If not, we email you a button: tap it, then tap Start in Telegram, and the bot links your account and sends you the button to join. The email button works once, within 7 days.

You can also tap Join the Telegram group or Join the Telegram channel under Your memberships on your account page, any time while you're a member. The first time, Telegram opens our bot so you can link your Telegram account. Tap Start, and the bot sends you the button to join.

You stay in the group or channel while your membership lasts. If you cancel, you leave it when the month you paid for ends. If a payment doesn't go through, you have 3 days to pay before you're taken out. You can rejoin any time while you're a member.

You can unlink Telegram from your account page any time. You then leave every group and channel you joined through your.abuna.app.

If you're a creator, tap Connect Telegram in your studio, under Settings, and choose the group or channel you already use. It needs to be private. You can connect one at a time. People already in it stay. Members who join through your page leave when their membership ends.

When you first publish a post, course or lesson, our bot posts it there automatically, whether or not you email your members. For members-only ones, it shows just the summary. You can turn this off in Settings.

Privacy and who sees what

When you join or follow a creator, they see your name, your email and the day you joined or followed on their members list. If you're a member, they also see the day you've paid through and how much you've paid them in total.

Other readers see your name next to your comments. They never see your email.

When you open a members-only lesson file, we note who opened it and when, so we can trace a leaked copy. Your IP address and browser details are removed from that note after 30 days, and the note itself after 180 days.

When you link Telegram, we keep your Telegram user ID, username and first name. For a creator's group or channel, we keep its chat ID, type and title. We never read your bio, phone number or messages. You can unlink any time from your account page. We delete the record that you were in a group or channel 90 days after you leave it.

If you're a creator, your drafts are private. Only you can open them, along with their video, audio and comments. Our review team can't.

A new lesson starts as a draft too, so readers don't see it while you write. In a published course, choose Publish on the lesson when it's ready. Publishing a course publishes its draft lessons with it, except empty ones.

Uploading files

  • Video: MP4, MOV and other common formats, up to 300 MB and 60 minutes.
  • Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and other common formats, up to 200 MB and 3 hours.
  • Voice notes: up to 5 minutes, recorded in the editor or uploaded.
  • Lesson files: any kind of file, up to 100 MB.
  • Page photo: JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. We crop it to a square and shrink it on your device before it uploads. If your device can't shrink it, it can be up to 2 MB.

Keep the page open while a file uploads. If a video or audio upload stops, choose the same file again within 24 hours to continue where it left off.

After the upload, a video or audio needs some time to get ready. You can leave the page while it does. Readers see it once it's ready.

A post or lesson holds one video or one audio. Adding one replaces the other once the new one is ready.

Photos and videos can't show nudity or sexual content. See the content rules.

Upload limits

Up to 3 videos, audio files or voice notes can upload or get ready at once. You can start up to 20 an hour and 60 a day.

You can upload up to 30 lesson files and photos an hour.

If you reach a limit, we tell you how long to wait.

Comments and reports

If you can read a post or lesson, you can comment on it once you've confirmed your email, unless the creator turns comments off. A comment can be up to 2,000 characters.

You can edit your comment for 15 minutes after posting it, and delete it any time.

Creators can delete any comment on their posts and lessons, and pin one to the top. They can also hide a person. Readers then stop seeing that person's comments, and the person can't comment on that creator's posts and lessons.

To show someone again, open Settings in your studio and choose Show comments again under Hidden people.

To report a video, audio or file, choose Report at the bottom of its post or lesson. To report a page photo, choose Report at the bottom of the creator's page. Reports are never for writing.

When enough people report something, readers can't see it while we review it, and its creator gets an email. The content rules say what happens next.

Your account and data

Confirm your email before you sign in the first time. Confirmation and password links can take a minute to arrive, so look in your spam folder too.

In your account you can change your name, manage memberships, choose which emails you get, and sign out other devices.

Download your data gives you a copy of your profile, memberships, payments, comments, follows, reports you've sent, email choices and sign-in methods. If you have a page, it also includes your posts, courses, a list of your uploads, your earnings, your payouts and the people you've hidden.

Deleting your account removes your profile, memberships, comments and follows for good. If you have a page, it goes too. Past payments stay in our records without your name on them.

Before you delete, cancel any membership that still renews or has a payment due. If your page has members, email your-support@abuna.app to close it first.

Limits

You can send up to 10 reports an hour and 30 a day, and follow or unfollow up to 60 times an hour.

You can download your data up to 5 times an hour. Creators can hide or show people up to 30 times an hour.

If you reach a limit, we tell you how long to wait.

Claude and ChatGPT

You can connect Claude or ChatGPT to your account and ask either one about it. They can see your name, and whether you have a creator page and its address.

If you have a page, they can also write posts and lessons for you, show you how they'll look, edit them and publish them. Try asking:

  • “Draft a members-only post from these notes: …”
  • “Show me how it looks.”
  • “Change the title to …”
  • “Add a lesson to my course on …”
  • “Publish it and email my members.”

New posts and lessons are saved as drafts. Nothing goes live until you ask. Edits to something already published show on your page right away. They can make up to 30 changes an hour.

They can't see your email address, your payments or your members, and they can't delete anything or change your price.

Go to the AI page in your account (or AI in your studio) to copy your address and follow the steps. Tap Disconnect there any time, and the app stops working right away.
