LIFE BETWEEN BUILDS

Your interview is online. Your network has other plans.

1 min read

You've prepared for the interview.

You researched the company. Practised your answers. Checked your CV. Even rehearsed how you'll introduce yourself.

Then, on the day, your internet starts behaving like it has personal issues with you.

The audio cuts. The page refuses to load. Your data bundle is disappearing, but the meeting is still buffering.

Suddenly, the interview isn't only testing your preparation. You're also negotiating with your network provider. 😭

For many people in places where reliable internet and electricity aren't guaranteed, accessing an opportunity can require extra planning before the actual work even begins.

That's why I think conversations about opportunity should include access, too.

A talented person shouldn't have to spend all their energy overcoming avoidable barriers before they can even show what they know.

And for those of us building digital products, this reality matters. Heavy pages, fragile connections, and unnecessarily complicated flows can make an already difficult experience worse.

Sometimes, inclusion starts with making sure people can actually get through the door.

What's one thing you now prepare in advance because you refuse to be embarrassed by light or network again? 😂
